Fans at Hamilton Stadium react to Canada’s World Cup loss to Switzerland

Soccer fans in this part of the country were very excited for Canada’s final group stage match against Switzerland on Tuesday in B.C.

Around 2,000 fans gathered at Hamilton Stadium to experience the match with other supporters of Team Canada.

The atmosphere was initially quiet, which is reflective of widespread confidence from fans, as a victory or draw would secure Canada a more favorable opponent in the knockout stage.

Kickoff for this was at 3 p.m. and the crowd was on the edge of their seats for most of the match.

Especially in the second half after Switzerland earned two goals over the Canadians.

Canada kept it close with a late goal and pushed the Swiss in extra time.

But, they just couldn’t get it past the Swiss keeper, falling 2-1 to close out the game.

In this World Cup, Canada has already accomplished something they’ve never done before: the first draw, first win and first CONACAF squad to score 6 goals in the world cup.

Despite the loss, Canada is still moving on to the next round and these fans couldn’t be more proud.

“It’s really sad. We’ve had a really great run. That game against Qatar was just beautiful. It’s really what you want to see, your country coming together after your first big win. I am really just excited to look at how the community is coming together. I think this is really great for the city.”

As Switzerland won Tuesday’s match, Canada finishes in the second spot in group B and they’ll travel to Los Angeles to face either South Korea or Czechia Sunday.
