The Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) and the Haudenosaunee Wildlife and Habitat Committee will have their annual controlled deer harvest in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area starting Monday.
There is a specific agreement in place for the 2025–27 seasons based on the existing protocol to address the Treaty Rights of the Haudenosaunee on HCA-owned lands.
HCA says deer harvesting will take place concurrently in two designated areas of the Dundas Valley Conservation Area with Schedule A covering the Headwaters Trail area between Paddy Greene Road and Martin Road.
Meanwhile, Schedule B covers an area west of Weir’s Lane and south of the railway, near Governors Road. The area designated in Schedule B has no public access or trail system.
Between Nov. 2 and Dec. 3, harvesting will only take place on HCA-owned lands within these designated areas from Monday to Thursday.
HCA says the number of deer to be harvested is limited to 60 across both areas combined.
Hamilton police, municipal law enforcement and the Ministry of Natural Resources have been notified of the harvest and trail closures. Nearby residents and trail users will be informed through signs and notices.
