The St. Lawrence Seaway Corporation has announced that the Welland Canal is set to close for the season at 12 a.m. on Jan. 10.

This comes five days after the Montreal to Lake Ontario section of the waterway closes.

The corporation says any transits of the Welland Canal after 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 26, if permitted, will be subject to prior written agreement.

It says arrangements are to be made at the St. Catharines office.

The 43-kilometre-long Welland Canal is expected to reopen on March 22 depending on ice conditions.
