The City of Burlington and Town of Oakville have declared August as Black Business Month.

Black Business Month aims to recognize the role Black businesses have in shaping the communities and encourage residents to invest and uplift Black-owned businesses.

“This month-long recognition also brings attention to the ongoing barriers Black entrepreneurs face, particularly in accessing equitable financial support and resources and calls for meaningful community engagement and support,” Halton Black Voices said in a statement.

Halton Black Voices and community advocate Kezia Royer-Burkett announced this proclamation along with a statement from Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

A public proclamation will be held at Burlington City Hall on Aug. 14 between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m.

Halton Black Voices will also celebrate the proclamation at their upcoming cookout at Mount Kelso Conservation Area on July 26.
