Officer charged with murder after shooting man in back

A white police officer in South Carolina is facing murder charges after a cellphone video shows him shooting a black man in the back.

The video was shot by a bystander and obtained by the New York Times from the victim’s lawyer.

Officer Michael Slager is seen firing eight shots at 50-year old Walter Scott, who was running away.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting happened after a traffic stop Saturday morning in Charleston, apparently over a faulty brake light.

Walter Scott’s brother says that although the family is grieving, they’re grateful that the truth is coming out.
