Ontario is reporting 593 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and five more deaths related to the virus.

The province says one death reported today is from last month due to a data cleanup.

The daily case count is based on more than 33,220 tests completed on the previous day.

The province says 35,691 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of more than 21.2 million.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 84.6 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and nearly 78.4 per cent have two doses.

There are currently 188 patients in intensive care with COVID-related critical illnesses and 125 on ventilators.

The province says of those in hospital, 264 are unvaccinated individuals, 17 are partially vaccinated and 45 are fully vaccinated.

Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least seven are in an outbreak including The Wellington Nursing Home in Hamilton, R. H. Lawson Eventide Home in Niagara Falls, and Hampton Terrace Care Centre in Burlington.

An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
