Queen’s Park peace officer, Oakville Marine Unit member dies in crash

A Queen’s Park peace officer who also worked at the Oakville Marine Unit died after a motor vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Reports say Joshua Camacho died but details have not been released about how the collision happened and information about any other people involved has not been made public.

Provincial leaders and Legislative Protective Service members have shared an outpouring of condolences following Camacho’s death.

“Josh dedicated himself to serving others, both as a SAR member of the Oakville Marine Search and Rescue team and as a Peace Officer serving the Legislative Assembly of Ontario,” said Oakville Ward 1 town and regional councillor Sean O’Meara on Facebook.

“My sincere condolences go out to Josh’s family, friends, colleagues and his fellow OMSAR crew members during this difficult time. His commitment to public service and our community will be remembered. He will be missed.”

“We are extremely grateful for the men and women who keep Queen’s Park safe every day and my thoughts are with everyone at the Legislative Protective Service at this difficult time,” Premier Doug Ford posted on X.

Donna Skelly, speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, posted on X that Camacho worked as a peace officer at Queen’s Park for three years, was known for his professionalism and commitment to service and will be deeply missed.

“For those who worked alongside him, Camacho’s passing represents the loss of a colleague who had spent years serving the Legislative Protective Service. His role required dedication, professionalism and a strong commitment to public safety, qualities highlighted in tributes following his death,” Camacho’s obituary said.
