One man is dead and another is fighting for his life after a crash in West Lincoln.

The single-vehicle accident happened around 2:30 this morning when police say a pick-up truck slammed into a utility pole on Regional Road 20, cutting off power to the area.

The 45 year old passenger from Stoney Creek was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 38 year old man also from Stoney Creek, is in critical condition at Hamilton General Hospital.

Residents nearby were the first on scene. One of them, Amanda Jeffrey, said there wasn’t much they could do.

“The one guy was pinned, so we couldn’t even get him out of the truck, so it was just more we just talked to him to get him to come to. And then the guy who was ejected from the vehicle, we knew pretty much right away that there was nothing we could do.”

Police say speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash.
