The family of New Brunswick teen Ashley Smith is demanding the inquest into her death start over

Their lawyer says a mistrial should be declared.
The proceeding resumed last Monday under new coroner, doctor John Carlisle, but was quickly adjourned until today, when a motion will be heard challenging Carlisle’s jurisdiction.

The lawyer says the Smith family just wants the proceedings to start fresh.
The inquest is to figure out why the 19-year-old from Moncton was able to choke herself to death with a piece of cloth at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, four years ago.
