Swimmers urged to avoid algae

Halton’s health department is warning residents to avoid swimming in the waters at Beachway Park and LaSalle Park in Burlington and at Bronte Beach Park in Oakville.

Blue-green algae has been confirmed at these locations.

Residents are also being warned not to eat fish caught in these areas, or to let their pets play in or drink the water. Some blue-green algae have the potential to create toxins in the water, and can cause skin irritation.

Halton’s drinking water is not affected by the algae and is still safe to drink.
