Friends and family said their final goodbyes to Kevin Raposo. The 29 year old Hamiltonian died last week after falling 181 metres from a Toronto building where he was working.
Raposo was described by friends and family as a loving and quiet man. And by the outpour of people it was apparent that he really was loved in the community.
St Lawrence Church in Hamilton was full, inside and outside. His girlfriend, Ashley Bley was wearing a Raposo Montreal Canadiens jersey – his favourite team. The construction company Kevin worked for, Verdi Alliance shut down for the day so that their approximately 1,500 employees could come and pay final respects to Kevin and his family.
It was a week ago that the Hamilton native was working on a building on Yonge Street near Gerrard. A safety harness broke and he fell 55 stories, landing on an adjacent building.
A tragic accident that really affected those that worked with Kevin, like Mike Medeiros.
“Kevin was a real nice guy hard working tragedy very unexpected its kind of shocked everyone in our job.”
” I could never forget his smile I will always remember him as being very caring guy enjoyed life loved life music he loved to have fun I will never forget his smile that’s one thing I will never forget
This has really affected workers. Some told CHCH News they now plan to double check all equipment, while others said they don’t even know if they still want to work in this industry.
The incident is currently being investigated by the ministry of labour.
