(Update)

Members of the United Steel Workers local 8782 have accepted the latest offer from U.S. Steel, ending a four month lockout in Nanticoke.

Local 8782 President Bill Ferguson says members voted 57% in favour of the new collective agreement, with 79% of the membership voting. That’s despite the fact that representatives for the union recommended members not accept it.

The five year deal includes a $2,500 signing bonus, but there are no raises during the term.

A representative for U.S. Steel Canada says they’re pleased to be able to recall the workforce and anticipate all employees will return to work in the next 30 days.
