Ticats look for QB/receiver chemistry

For Hamilton Tiger-Cats pivot Jeremiah Masoli and his receivers, they’ve only had 4 days of practise to really find that chemistry together before Friday’s big game against the Stampeders. So with the club currently on a plane heading to Alberta, is the offence on the same page?

While Jeremiah Masoli has been with the Tiger-Cats for a couple of years now, Friday will be his first starting quarterback gig when Hamilton travels to Calgary to face the Stampeders. There’s a significant difference going from being a 3rd stringer to a starter. On top of everything else that comes with that responsibiliyy is the importance of developing chemistry with your receivers as quickly as possible. So, has 4 days of practice been enough for Masoli and the receivers to gel?

Receiver Luke Tasker: “The meetings are great, the films together are great but you can’t replace or speak highly enough of reps that you get together. It’s a good thing we had a full week of practice. For Jeremiah to feel comfortable — for us to feel comfortable with him. It’s not that you have to learn to change your routes or the way you play because there’s a new quarterback, it’s just to feel comfortable and trust each other that you know what’s going on. It’s all about the reps I would say.”

Receiver Greg Ellingson: “It’s always good to get those reps but the way our offence is, you can plug guys in. And that’s what makes it so deadly is when guys come back you just plug them right back in where they were and when guys go down, you just up the next guy and put him in and Masoli’s going to get him in and make sure he does the right job.”

Jeremiah Masoli: “We have a great group of guys. So before we even step on the field, you know we’re all pretty close and that trust shows when we get out there. And just being confident in the game plan and preparing the right way, that gives us our chemistry and confidence all together.”
