Traffic congestion along the Kenilworth access is going from bad to worse very soon. Both lanes will be closed for one week starting Friday at 7am.
Last weeks rock slides led to the immediate closure of the Kenilworth access on the upbound lanes causing huge traffic headaches. There is still plenty of rocks scattered across the upbound lanes right now as they remain closed. They are supposed to remain closed for three weeks so that city crews can work to prevent future slides.
The closure of the downbound lanes is part of that work. A statement from the city Thursday said that they are removing large rocks and debris from the escarpment and they are worried that the sheer size of the rocks may cause them to roll into the downbound lanes. So this closure is a precaution.
So it could be a slow drive for the next week, but the statement from the city says that if they manage to complete their work sooner then one week, the downbound lanes will once again re-open. But the upbound lanes will remain closed for the duration of the three week closure.
