School board allows Oakville teacher to continue wearing prosthetic breasts

First Published:

A teacher at Oakville Trafalgar High School sporting large prosthetic breasts will be allowed to continue wearing them in class, according to a report.

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) has finished their review of the faculty dress code, a review that was requested in early September after images of the teacher wearing the large prosthetic breasts were shared on social media.

The school board faced backlash and received international attention over the transgender shop teacher’s attire, but says it is not taking any action, citing human rights concerns.

The shop teacher made headlines internationally due to the choice to sport large, prosthetic breasts along with tight work attire students say is unprofessional and uncomfortable to be around.

The images shared of the teacher online lead to a protest at the school where participants said children should be protected (Image courtesy/Twitter).

The HDSB determined that implementing a dress code would be a liability to the board.

“Even where a dress code requirement is generally reasonable, an employer must ensure that the dress code is non-discriminatory in its application,” the school board’s report said. “Policies which impose different grooming standards on men and women, or which place additional burdens on members of one gender, will quite often be deemed unenforceable.”

The teacher’s appearance upset some of the students at the school, saying it’s distracting and inappropriate.
