Niagara Region facing continued snow squall warning

First Published:

Residents in the Niagara Region are advised of an updated snow squall warning released Monday morning, with accumulation amounts of 15 to 30 cm expected.

Environment Canada says snow squalls over Lake Erie are moving northward towards southern portions of the Niagara Peninsula.

This has triggered a weather warning for the Niagara Region as these squalls are expected to hit Monday and last into Tuesday afternoon before moving south of the area.

Total snowfall amounts of nearly 30 cm along the Lake Erie shoreline are possible. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations.

Snow squalls can cause conditions to vary considerably within a few kilometres, with the weather quickly changing from clear skies to heavy snow.

Wind gusts of up to 60 km/h can cause southwestern blowing snow and whiteout at times.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

A storm watcher located in Crystal Beach near Fort Erie describes on Twitter what conditions are like on the ground right now in the area.
