Study on Avastin and breast cancer
The drug Avastin appears to increase the time it takes metastatic breast cancer tumours to grow, but it doesn’t increase overall survival.
A review of 4,000 patients found those who took Avastin added one to six months before their tumours grew, but they did not live longer, or have a better quality of life.
Last year, both Health Canada and the U.S. FDA said Avastin will no longer be approved to treat breast cancer because of its harsh side effects.
It’s still used for metastatic breast cancer treatment in Europe.
