Doctors video conference tests
Four Ottawa clinics are testing out a new video conference system that could allow some patients to see a doctor much sooner than usual.
A tele-medicine assistant assesses the patients’ history and symptoms, and then connects them to a doctor in another community where there’s less demand.
Tablets and specialized cameras allow the physician to diagnose and treat without ever physically examining the patient.
While tele-medicine works for things like a skin rash or burn, something like abdominal pain would still require seeing a doctor in person.
