Cancer care report good news for area
Cancer care continues to improve for patients in Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand and Brant.
That’s according to the latest annual report from the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario. The report tracks the quality and consistency of cancer services from prevention to end-of-life care. It also examines issues like equal accessibility to services.
Officials say it provides valuable insight to the system since it’s one of the most comprehensive reports of its kind.
“The good news is that many cancers, the rate of cancer and the deaths from cancer are decreasing. So many positive indicators, but it really gives us measurements and things we would like to work on to continue to improve.”

The first report was issued in 2005. This year alone, more than 70,000 new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in Ontario.
