Antibacterial chemical studied

A chemical used in anti-bacterial products may reduce muscle function.

A new study from the University of California looked at the effect Triclosan, an ingredient used in antibacterial products like soap, deodorant and toothpaste.

In test tube studies, the chemical made it harder for heart and muscle cells to contract.

Meanwhile, mice exposed to the chemical had poorer heart function, and fish who swam in water contaminated with the substance had reduced swimming activity.
