Hamilton city hall approves Tesla centre for CF Lime Ridge Mall

First Published:

Hamilton city hall showed their full support for the new Tesla service centre at Lime Ridge Mall Thursday night, with the Tesla representative only sitting in front of the adjustment committee for about a minute before they voted unanimously to move the project forward.

Due to the servicing and repairing of electric vehicles, in addition to the sale of electric vehicles, Tesla required a minor variance in order to use the Lime Ridge Mall site.

The 60,000 square-foot facility will be built in the former “The Bay Home/Home Outfitters” location on the east side of the mall, allowing for a vacant portion of the mall to be redeveloped.

The space was already mostly zoned for a care show room and service centre so that allowed for the decision to move so quickly.

Tesla also noted the timing of the minor variance saying it would be a “major deciding factor of Tesla investment in Hamilton.”

Tesla Canada’s Senior Real Estate Manager, Kyle Mazzone, said in a letter to the owner of Cadillac Fairview that the automaker plans to have a showroom and service area where some basic service work will be done, including software updates and tire replacements.

The showroom will be the largest of its kind in Canada, with Tesla saying it would bring about 50 new jobs to the area.
