Woman, child taken to hospital following three-vehicle crash in St. Catharines

A suspected impaired driver is facing charges following a collision in St. Catharines that sent a woman and child to hospital.
It happened around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Glendale Ave. and Glenridge Ave.
Officers arrived on scene and found three vehicles involved in the crash, with one on its side.
Police learned a Buick Allure entered the intersection and collided with a Chevrolet Cruise and Subaru Outback.
A woman who was driving the Subaru and a child who was also inside the vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say their vehicle sustained extensive damage in the crash.
The driver of the Buick, 33-year-old Joseph Matthews, was arrested at the scene.
Police say he was found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl at the time.
Matthews has been charged with operate conveyance impaired by drug and possession of a controlled substance. His licence has also been suspended for 90 days.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Mar 22.
