Waterdown bridge project delayed, businesses brace for disruption

The city of Hamilton says it’s pushing back the demolition on the Grindstone Creek bridge near Mill Street in Waterdown.
This could mean the bridge may be down to one lane through winter until next spring.
The deconstruction of the bridge was supposed to start in the spring, but the city told CHCH News that while in the preliminary stages some unforeseen additional rehabilitation work came up causing a delay.
The project is now expected to start in late August.
Today, a business owner whose shop is just steps away from the construction site expressed her worry.
“It’s a major concern for us as we have opened recently and it’s not me, it’s I guess every business here it’s going to affect because we need clients as our business is like more in person. Whether we just do repairs, whether they have to buy the products, they have to come in person whether to drop or whether to buy,” said co-owner of Computer Hub, Palkin Kaur.
Despite the delays, the $10.5 million project is still expected to be done by the end of 2026.
