Vancouver loses Cup, cool
For Canucks fans it was an ugly night on the ice but for Vancouver an even uglier one off it.
Violence and vandalism erupted soon after the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup with a 4-0 win in Game 7. People set fires in the streets, torching garbage bins and a parking garage. Clouds of smoke could be seen rising above buildings. Police used batons to try to push back and control crowds of looters.
Violent mobs broke into major downtown stores. Cars were flipped over and set on fire, including 2 police cruisers. People were fighting in the streets as well. Vancouver police say there were four stabbings. Officers used pepper spray and rubber bullets to try to push back crowds. They also used tear gas for the first time in the city since the 1994 riots when the Canucks lost to the Rangers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup.
