The United States has initiated new airstrikes on Iran after allegations that Tehran attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran launched missile strikes targeting U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Washington has also blocked Iran from openly selling crude oil, escalating the situation.

The recent exchange jeopardizes planned talks aimed at easing tensions and reopening the vital shipping route as well as threatens to unravel the fragile ceasefire.

Israeli strikes on Gaza continued on Tuesday even just before the kickoff of the Egypt-Argentina World Cup match.

Local health officials say a strike killed a top Palestinian aid worker who helped set up public screenings of the game across the area.

The bombing of a car killed its 33-year-old driver and three bystanders including Mohamed al-Wahidi, who was the Gaza Egyptian committee official, 10-year-old Hamza al-Deri and his eight-year-old brother, Fari.

Since the ceasefire began in October, Israel has killed at least 1,027 individuals, including 258 children.
