Tories accuse Wynne of being in on email purge

The opposition isn’t backing down from their fight against the Liberals over the gas plant scandal. Today the PCs are accusing premier Wynne of being complicit in the deletion of emails on the cancelled plants.
The Tories say Wynne should either dissolve the legislature to allow an election, or resign as premier because of her alleged involvement in the cover-up of documents.
Cambridge PC MPP Rob Leone asked “what is Premier Wynne trying to hide by not ordering staffers to return those stolen USB? Premier Wynne needs to start being truthful with Ontario taxpayers. She doesn’t need to keep participating in our government’s orchestrated cover-up. She can release the documents right now.”
The Progressive Conservatives say Wynne was a member of the liberal cabinet when the chiefs of staff in McGuinty’s office and the energy ministry deleted those emails.
The NDP is calling on the premier to order McGuinty to appear at a committee and testify about the Liberals who deleted emails accounts, when he was premier. Wynne says things have changed since then.
“Since February we’ve taken steps to make sure that political staff are aware of their responsibilities, there’s been mandatory training put in place, so we have changed the protocols around the retention of information.”
The OPP launched a criminal investigation on Friday into the mass destruction of emails on the cancelled gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.
Now, the OPP say their criminal investigation services will examine the Tory complaints about the deletion of these emails on the cost of cancelling the gas plants. The price tag on that is estimated at at least $585 million.
