Province stepping up funding, inspections for care homes
The Ontario government says it’s increasing the number of inspections of long-term care homes in the province.
The health and long-term care ministry says it’s hiring more inspectors to perform more unannounced resident quality inspections in nursing homes. The province says all 633 long-term care homes in Ontario will receive a new inspection by the end of 2014, and every year after that.
Funding for long-term care is also expected to increase to $3.8 billion over this year, from $2.1 billion between 2003 and 2004.
