The NDP will not be granted official party status, says House leader

House leader Steven MacKinnon says the New Democratic Party (NDP) will not be granted official party status.
The NDP was reduced to a mere seven seats in last month’s election – marking the first time since 1997 that the party is not recognized in Parliament.
In order to hold official party status, the NDP would have needed to secure 12 seats in the House of Commons.
Losing their official status means the NDP will not be allowed to ask questions in question period, nor will they be guaranteed financial resources or seats on standing committees.
