After several days of slow progress, talks with Ontario’s English Elementary teachers slammed to a sudden stop on Friday. On Monday, both the government and the teacher’s union called for a return to bargaining as quickly as possible. But so far, neither side has made a move to re-start the process.

Both sides did suggest the other is at fault for the collapse of negotiations. Premier Wynne and Education Minister, Liz Sandals made an appearance at Central Toronto Academy on Monday, and Wynne put Teachers’ Union President, Sam Hammond directly into the centre of the dispute.

The goading clearly annoyed Hammond, and he fired back at the Premier stating that the Union is prepared to escalate the strike action if there is no change on the part of the government and OSBA. Hammond did not say what escalation of strike action might entail, just as he would not explain what unique needs the elementary teachers have in detail.
