An independent review of the June 15th Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver has been released

The reports says there was not a lack of police at the scene, but rather too many people for the venue.
It was co-written by Doug Keefe and John Furlong, who say police did a heroic job.
However, they add backup officers arrived too late to control the alcohol-fuelled crowd of more than 150-thousand.
The report says on the day of the riot, alcohol sales in Vancouver jumped 68 per cent over the same day a year earlier.
The report makes 53 recommendations, including a clampdown on alcohol sales before such events.

The B.C. government says it’s already acting on some of the recommendations.
Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu says the independent report shows there were problems, but adds overall his force performed well.
