Former Occupy Toronto mud pit getting a major facelift.
Volunteers and City staff are laying 12 tractor trailer loads of new sod at Toronto’s St. James park where occupy protesters had set up camp.
As many as 40 landscaping and sodding companies are giving it a facelift at no cost to the city.
The grass took a beating during the 39-day occupation, which ended a couple weeks ago when protesters tents were taken down.
City officials had estimated it could cost up to $60-thousand to repair the damage.
Work began yesterday as members from Landscape Ontario organized an initiative to bring the park back to life.
The project manager says repairing the park will also benefit the environment.
The work at St. James Park is expected to wrap up tomorrow.
