From 1960 up until the late 80’s, more than 16 000 Aboriginal children in Ontario were removed from their homes and placed into foster care, eventually ending up with “white” families, it was called the Sixties Scoop. Those children launched a class action lawsuit against the Federal government back in 2009 and are finally getting their day in court.

Over 200 people rallied outside of Osgood Hall this morning in Toronto before marching to the Superior Court where a class action hearing was held. This legal battle has been going on for 7 years, the Aboriginal people are asking for $1.3 billion from the government for it’s part in removing kids from their homes. The Superior court judge will hear arguments that the Federal government had a responsibility to preserve the culture of the children who were taken.
