Reducing pedestrian deaths

A new report for Ontario suggests reducing the speed limit on residential streets, in an effort to prevent pedestrian deaths.

Ontario’s Chief Coroner is recommending the limit be 40 kilometres an hour, down from 50.

About 100 pedestrians are killed in Ontario every year, and one third of those are seniors.

The report is also calling for a provincial “walking strategy” and suggesting pedestrians cross at crosswalks and intersections instead of in the middle of a street.
