Queen’s Park to study shared economy bill
A bill that would make services like Uber and Airbnb legal across Ontario has passed second reading at Queen’s Park.
But that only means MPPs wanted it to go before a committee to be thoroughly studied.
Former Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak says his private member’s bill would give consumers more choice while letting people make some extra money.
If it becomes law, municipalities would not be able to ban ride-sharing, home-sharing and parking-sharing apps.
But the services would still have to get municipal licenses and prove they had insurance and other forms of protection for consumers.
The bill has to pass a third reading by MPPs before it can become law.
