Province grants Dunnville $3M for affordable housing, new roadway

The provincial government has committed a total $3 million in funding to support the construction of an affordable housing project and a new roadway in Dunnville.
Located off Ramsey Drive, the 56-unit Dunnville Affordable Housing Project will include rent-geared-to-income, affordable housing units, office space, and a child-care facility.
The development was awarded $2.3 million by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Last Mile Funding Program. The program supports ready-to-build, affordable housing projects with the ultimate goal of ending homelessness.
“Safe, affordable, and inclusive housing is vital to the well-being of our community, and we are grateful for this funding,” Shelley Ann Bentley, mayor of Haldimand County, said in a statement Wednesday.
“It is essential that we continue working with our local and provincial partners to address the housing crisis and find innovative ways to build a more affordable and inclusive community.”
Construction of a new roadway – Jim Gregory Drive – will provide access to the neighbourhood, which is slated to include a new Fire and EMS Station in the future.
The new roadway will be partially supported by a maximum of $718,750 in funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure’s Housing-Enabled Core Servicing stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.
“This up-front funding will help offset construction costs and ensure these much-needed projects remain affordable from the residents of Haldimand.” said Cathy Case, Chief Administrative Officer, Haldimand County.
