City of Hamilton requests more support in housing crisis

The City of Hamilton is joining other municipalities in calling on the provincial and federal governments for more support in addressing the housing crisis.

This call follows a new report from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, saying more than 80,000 people across the province are experiencing homelessness.

The report calls on upper levels of government to invest $11 billion over ten years to end chronic homelessness in Ontario.

Here in Hamilton, Mayor Andrea Horwath says supportive and affordable housing projects are in progress.

The city has recently applied for provincial funding to support two of them, but she says municipalities cannot bear the brunt of the housing crisis on their own.
