Premier questioned on casino
Dalton McGuinty says the province will not put casinos where people don’t want them.
“I’ll leave it up to the people of Toronto to make a decision in that regard. I know there are a number of communities that will be giving the prospect of a casino due consideration. I think councils have got a couple of things that they’ve got to come to terms with.”
“First of all, do they want to give a casino due consideration? If they do, then they’re going to have to find a way to appropriately consult the people who live in that community. And I’ll leave it up to them to make a determination as to what appropriate consultation might be. But to make it clear once again, if a community doesn’t want a casino, we’re not about to impose a casino on that community.”
McGuinty says Ontario would respect it if Toronto decides it does want a casino – but not at Ontario Place.
