Peel police’s central robbery bureau have made a number of arrests in an organized criminal network responsible for more than 15 violent home invasions in the Greater Toronto Area totalling $1.8 million in stolen property.

Thirteen arrests were made — including five young people — and a total of 197 criminal charges have been laid. The group stole luxury vehicles and high-end jewellery, of which approximately one-third has been recovered.

The investigation called Project Ghost connected the suspects to break-ins at homes in Brampton on Aug. 1 — one of which involved a stabbing — and in Mississauga on Sept. 10 of last year in which a shooting also took place.

Police say they have connected the group to other home invasions and luxury car and jewelry thefts across Peel and Halton.

Investigators also seized cell phones, laptops, a replica firearm and a quantity of white powder believed to be cocaine.

“Project Ghost reflects our unwavering commitment to both enforcement and prevention. We will not allow organized crime to take hold in Peel,” said Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich, Peel Regional Police.

“Let this serve as a clear warning: if you choose to endanger our communities, you will be found, you will be arrested, and you will be held accountable,” added Michael S. Kerzner, Solicitor General of Ontario.
