Ontario reports 4,812 COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths as new restrictions expected

Ontario reported 4,812 cases of COVID-19 and 25 deaths on Friday, as Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce new restrictions.

The daily case count is a new record, the third set this week, beating the 4,736 cases reported on Thursday.

It comes as the province completed 64,304 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were done, is 8.2 per cent.

There are 1,955 people hospitalized with COVID-19 across the province, up from 1,932 the day before. There are 701 patients in ICU with 480 of them on ventilators.

  • 14,985 total cases — up 247 from Thursday
  • 13,095 resolved cases
  • 1,309 active cases
  • 120 in hospital
  • 343 deaths  — up two from Thursday

Niagara

  • 11,667 total cases — up 152 from Thursday
  • 9,883 resolved cases
  • 1,405 active cases
  • 49 in hospital
  • 379 deaths

Brant

  • 2,292 total cases — up 39 from Thursday
  • 1,990 resolved cases
  • 288 active cases
  • 14 deaths
  • 10 in hospital

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,949 total cases  — up 34 from Thursday
  • 1,669 resolved cases
  • 235 active cases
  • 40 deaths

There were 115,634 vaccine doses administered on Thursday, which is a new daily record for Ontario.

There are 341,933 people in the province who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
