After a massive manhunt, the man wanted in connection to the bombings in New York City and New Jersey over the weekend is in custody. 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami was arrested and taken to hospital this morning after a shootout with police. He is charged with attempted murder.

“Now that we have a suspect in custody, the investigation can focus on other aspects, such as whether this individual acted alone and what his motivations may have been.” James O’Neil, NYPD Commissioner.

The explosion in Manhattan Saturday injured 29 people, they have now all been released from hospital. Earlier that day a blast at a charity race in New Jersey, no one was injured in that incident. Police also believe Rahami is linked to a third incident, a device that exploded in New Jersey Sunday night while a bomb squad robot tried to disarm it.

Officials say they have stepped-up security dramatically in the wake of the attacks with more than a thousand additional officers and soldiers
