Norfolk OPP continue to investigate suspicious fires, witnesses wanted

The OPP are asking witnesses to come forward in connection with separate investigations into a series of suspicious fires in Norfolk County since mid-November.

The latest blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 6 on Windham Road 11 in Delhi, Norfolk County.

The fire was in an unoccupied structure and no injuries were reported. However, the incident has been deemed as “suspicious.”

Unexplained fires in the area started on Nov. 12, 2024 and have utilized the resources of Norfolk OPP officers and Norfolk County fire and paramedic services. Property damages so far are an estimated $1.5 million.

Area residents are reportedly concerned that an arsonist may be the culprit. One Norfolk County local has even started an “arson tracker” website complete with an interactive map of the fires.

According to police fires on the following dates and locations are being investigated:

  • Nov. 12 at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Windham East Quarter Line Road in Simcoe.
  • Nov. 13 at 1 a.m. on Windam Road 13 in Simcoe.

  • Nov. 26, just after 10 p.m. on Fourteenth Street West in Simcoe.
  • Nov. 27 around 12 a.m. on 10th Concession Road in Langton.
  • Dec. 11 around 4 a.m. on Highway 24 near Concession 11 Townsend, southeast of Waterford.
  • Dec. 19 at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Concession 10 Townsend in Waterford.
  • Dec 27 at approximately 12:30 a.m. on St. John’s Road West in Simcoe.

The affected structures have been identified as residences, greenhouses, barns and other ‘outbuildings’. No injuries have been reported.

Residents in the affected areas are asked to check their home surveillance systems for any footage that may assist with the investigations.

Additionally, motorists who were travelling on any of the roadways around the time of the fires and may have witnessed suspicious activity are urged to contact the police at 888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) should they wish to remain anonymous.
