Hamilton’s fire department responded to reports of a trailer fire in the area of 32–36 Tiffany Street in the city’s north end, shortly after 9:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Residents in the area posted a video of the flames coming off the trailer while fire fighters worked to knock them down.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Steve Welton tells CHCH News that upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully involved 50-foot by 20-foot trailer on fire. The incident was upgraded and additional resources were dispatched to assist.

The trailer is located on a vacant lot recently listed for a tax sale due to unpaid taxes. City records report the sale was cancelled before completion.

Police say there were no reported injuries and a search of the structure confirmed there were no occupants inside. They quickly cleared the scene once the fire was under control.

Officers say the fire department deemed this suspicious in nature but there was no other evidence found at the time to suggest anything in particular.

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
