73-year-old man dies after being hit by car on Niagara Street in Welland

Niagara police say a 73-year-old man has died after being hit by a car while walking on Niagara Street in Welland Sunday night.

Police had Niagara Street closed between Thorold and Abbey roads for several hours before reopening it at around 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Officers say they arrived on the scene at around 11:00 p.m. Sunday night.

Detectives’ initial findings determined that a silver Honda Civic was driving south on Niagara Street when it hit a man.

The man died from his injuries, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives are seeking dashcam, cellphone, or other surveillance footage recorded between 10:45 p.m. and 11:10 p.m. on Niagara Street, near Roger Drive in Welland, that may have captured the incident. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact investigators.
