Police have arrested a man after he committed two separate and seemingly random stabbings in downtown Hamilton on Thursday night.

At around 8 p.m., Hamilton police received a report of a stabbing at 70 James St. South.

Responding officers found a 37-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The officers provided first aid, and the man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Moments later, a second report of a stabbing — this time at 94 York Blvd. — was made to police.

This incident left a 39-year-old man with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.

Police say while they managed both incidents officers on the way to the stabbing scenes saw a man matching the suspect description walking westbound on York Boulevard with a knife in hand.

Officers conducted a high-risk takedown arrest and took the 24-year-old into custody.

The accused has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, failing to comply with a release order and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He is currently being held for bail.

Police believe both attacks were random and unprovoked.
