Niagara Region Public Health finds West Nile Virus in mosquitoes

Niagara Region Public Health (NRPH) is urging residents to be cautious after finding mosquitoes infected with West Nile Virus (WNV) in St. Catharines.
Some common symptoms of WNV are fevers, body aches, fatigue and rashes, according to Public Health Ontario. However, most people infected with this virus do not show any symptoms.
NRPH says residents can protect themselves by covering their arms, legs and feet when they go outside and using mosquito repellents.

Residents can also ensure there are no areas in their home with still water because that attracts mosquitoes. This can include bird baths, old tires and toys.
No human WNV cases have been identified in Niagara so far.
NRPH says anyone with questions can call them at 905-688-8248, ext. 7590 or visit their website for more information.
