Niagara Region now owns 2 historic train stations to further transit upgrades

Niagara Region is taking ownership of two historic train stations to move forward GO train and regional transit plans.
The region has acquired the historic train stations in St. Catharines on Great Western St. and Niagara Falls on Bridge St. after reaching a deal with VIA Rail.
“The station and infrastructure improvements we are making will create a generational impact on this area, this community and the way in which transit options are leveraged for decades to come,” said Niagara Region Chair Jim Bradley.
In 2016, Niagara Region committed $40 million to the train station development strategy.
Changes and upgrades will include new bus loops, modernized washrooms and a customer waiting area.
Officials in the region say progress is being made to bring all-day, two-way daily GO train service to the Niagara area.
