After being shot in the line of duty 3 years ago, a Niagara police officer has made a remarkable recovery and has qualified to run one of the toughest marathons in the world.

In October of 2015 Constable Neal Ridley was shot in the shoulder and neck during a gunfight with an armed, suicidal man in a Fenwick apartment building.

“I try to find something positive is every situation. If I didn’t go through what I went through in October I never would be running Boston with my brother in April.”

Qualifying for the Boston marathon is a feat most serious runners dream of accomplishing. In September Ridley reached his goal of qualifying with a time of 3 hours and 9 minutes. Matching the time of his running mate and twin brother, Vaughn.

“If there’s anyone I know that could go through something like this and still be positive about it, its him.”

His character was also recognized last year, when he and his three partners were awarded medals of bravery for their heroics efforts that night.

On April 16th the brothers will lace up their running shoes to complete a goal that’s been years in the making.
