A new elementary school and two expanded schools are set to welcome students in the Niagara area for the 2025-26 year.
Thundering Heights Public School on McLeod Road in Niagara Falls is a new-build and Fitch Street and Quaker Road public schools in Welland have been enhanced.
Fitch Street Public School has 205 new student spaces and 49 new licensed child care spaces. The renovations totalled $15.4 million.
Quaker Road Public School has 331 new student spaces and 49 new licensed child care spaces and was constructed at a cost of $15.8 million.
“These expansions will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.
The province of Ontario provided the District School Board of Niagara with $31.2 million to build the new school additions in Welland.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Education for investing in these essential additions as it will allow us to ensure that we are meeting the needs of families who are here now, and families we know will be joining both schools in the future,” said Sue Barnett, Chair of the District School Board of Niagara.
The Ontario government is providing $23 billion to support school construction, renewal and improvement over 10 years and says it has approved or supported the development of approximately 300 school-related projects including child care since 2018, of which more than 100 are actively under construction.
