Murder charge upgraded after man dies days after Niagara Falls assault

An attempted murder charge has been upgraded to second-degree murder after a man who was seriously injured in an alleged assault in Niagara Falls last week died in hospital.
Niagara police were called to the Greater Niagara General Hospital around 1 p.m. on Jan. 26 following concerns about the severity of Larry Young’s injuries. The 72-year-old was then taken to an out-of-region hospital for specialized medical care.
Further investigation revealed that an incident occurred at 4900 Buckley Ave., resulting in the arrest of 44-year-old Blair Young. He was charged with attempted murder.
Police say Larry died of his injuries on Friday, prompting the homicide unit to take over the case.
