Mount Pleasant 13-year-old raises money for rescue animals

One year ago, CHCH News introduced our viewers to 13-year-old Will Finch from Mount Pleasant, who started an animal rescue service called Good Will Good Karma.

This year, the teen is hoping to raise thousands of dollars to help support twelve local animal charities.

Finch and his family have already raised more than $750,000 through their animal rescue service, and now they have a new goal.

“We’re trying to raise $14,000 to have the largest Canadian youth animal fundraiser in Canadian history,” Finch said.

They’re making that goal a reality through the sales of a special calendar.

Twelve of the animals rescued by the family have inspired artwork which is displayed in the calendar along with their heartwarming stories.

Will’s mom Kristi said they fostered two puppies who are now service dogs.

“This dog actually has a whole following on social media,” Kristi said.

The Finch’s work all started several years ago with one rescue puppy named Karma who died a few weeks after coming home.

The kids sought inspiration in the tragedy and have helped hundreds of thousands ever since.

“We have a deep love for animals that has inspired us from day one, but also just inspiring more youth, whether they love animals, or they’re passionate about something else…really just getting the community involved and seeing more and more people inspired everyday,” Will’s sister Jada said.

Midland Artist William Stephens donated his time and effort to create the art in the calendar, and he said he relates to the experience of deserving a second chance.

“I feel that I have a lot in common with these rescue animals. I was down and out. And I took a second chance through creating and using that as an outlet. And I think, what I have in common with the animals, is they give a second chance to people,” Stephens said.

One hundred per cent of all the proceeds from the sales will be split among 12 rescues across Ontario and one in Manitoba.
